Build it before you publish it

Take your time. Nobody sees it until you are ready.

Every post on Autonomy now has a simple choice: Public or Private. Keep a post private while you build it, then decide who it is for: everyone, or only the people you send the link to.

Who can see this post?

🌐 PUBLIC 🔒 PRIVATE

This post won’t appear in any feeds. Only signed in users you share the link with can see it.

SAVE CHANGES

How it works

  1. Start your post and set it to Private. Write the main post as usual, with a title, tags and a location. Under Who can see this post? choose Private and press Save changes. The post will not appear in any feeds.
  2. Build it up underneath. Add the sections that make it useful as Added Content: the budget, the options, the evidence, the photos and documents. Come back to it as often as you like.
  3. Check it reads properly. Look over the whole thread the way other people will see it, and tidy anything that needs it.
  4. Choose who sees it. Switch it to Public and save to put it in the feed for everyone, or leave it on Private and send the link to the people you choose.

Two ways to share it

Public: for everyone

Your post appears in the feed, complete from the moment it goes live. Anyone can read it, add what they know and vote on what matters.

Ideal for a campaign with all its evidence in place, a detailed proposal for your street or a big community event.

Private: for your own people

The post stays out of every feed. Only people who are signed in to Autonomy and have the link you share can see it. Once they are in, they can do everything they could on a public post: add content, comment and vote.

Ideal for surprise parties, family gatherings, weddings, club meetings and anything you want to plan together without the whole neighbourhood watching.

Why it helps

  • No half finished posts. Nothing goes public until it says what you want it to say.
  • Go at your own pace. Build your post privately and publish it when you feel ready.
  • Bigger threads, ready on day one. A full wedding plan, a festival programme or a campaign can be built in every detail before anyone sees it.
  • For reporters and local journalists. Use a private post as your working draft. Share it with trusted contributors for checking, then go public.
  • The right audience. Some things belong with your own people. Others are worth sharing with everyone. You choose.

Sending the link to someone new? They will need to sign in to Autonomy to open it, which only takes a minute.
